The Zapp Plus 2- The Most Exciting Thing To Happen To Permanent Jewelry

This new permanent jewellery machine is changing the world of welded jewelry and I’m going to explain why. And I’m also going to compare it to some other machines in the industry so you know exactly what to spend your hard earned money on ,

This is the newly launched Zapp Plus 2 from Sunstone and it might just be the most exciting thing to happen to the industry since we started welding chain to people’s wrists We were lucky enough to have the first ones in the world flown out to us for our Dubai Trade Show and got to weld with them there so we’ve had the most use out of it.. Let’s dive straight into what makes this little beast so special. 

Well let’s just look at it for starters. For so long we’ve been using machines that look like they belong in the 80’s Cold War period. All these machines have an industrial feel to them, and here’s the problem with that.

We’ve trained over 100 artists in person and online and around 80% of the people we’ve trained are in the beauty industry and are creating  permanent jewelry from their salons. And if they’re not then still as a permanent jewelry artist they’re trying to create a luxury aesthetic- in short, they want things to look pretty for their clients. 

So when you go to that much effort to make your setup look beautiful and sparkly, and then you’ve got an ugly brick of a machine in the middle of all your beautiful things, it ruins it. And  in the world of looking good, that matters! 

The Zapp plus 2 has been specifically designed by Sunstone with the beauty industry in mind. Jewelry making is coming out of little back rooms and into the view of the public and this machine is aesthetically pleasing and comes in three different colours, and is super light and small so it’s easy to take to pop ups .You can literally fit it in your handbag.

The Zapp Plus 2 also comes with Sunstone’s state of the art welding stylus, which is the most accurate on the market and has something like a 0.1% chance of misrifing, which makes it safe for welding close to your clients’ skin. Also these styluses come in a range of colours so you can get them to match your branding. We just love this one. 

But looks aren’t everything, Are there any other new features with this new machine ?

Yep], and this first one is so important for the safety of your clients. Let me explain. We were asked to do a really important press event for the biggest retail company in the Uk. It was a huge deal. We even had to weld bracelets on the director of Vogue. So before we started, we tested if everything was ok and did a practice run of a welded bracelet. 

We normally weld around 6 joules and were using a really powerful jewelry welding machine. We didn’t notice but the wire of the grounded pliers touched the screen where we adjust the power, and pulled the power level all the way up  to 100!. 

When the stylus touched the jewellery, there was an almighty flash and crack and there was hardly anything left of the jump ring. The leather patch we’d put on our client was blackened and our hearts were racing. Thankfully it wasn't on a real client.

The Zapp Plus 2 completely gets rid of that scenario with its lockable power button, so this can never happen to you .

But are there any major differences between this and say the budget Zapp machine ? 

Absolutely. Lots of people complain about the Zapp, because if you want to weld an anklet on someone then you have to move your whole machine closer to your client because of the short and restrictive cord. And because of that we’ve been at pop ups with limited space and had to just say no to anklets. 

The new Zapp PLus 2 however, has a cord that is really long. It’s the longest cord Sunstone have ever made and is even longer than the one we got with our Orion MPulse and allows you to move freely around your client without moving any of your set up. That’s a Gamechanger! 

So it looks great, it’s light and the features have been thought out with us in mind, but is this machine actually up to the job of welding or is it all just style over substance? 

To make sure you never have to upgrade your machine, wherever your business may take you it is going to have to be powerful enough to allow you to weld larger pieces, and this machine goes up to 30 joules. 

We normally weld 24 gauge jump rings around the 6 level, depending on the metal, so you can see this gives you so much more power  to work with. If we compare that to the Zapp machine, that has an upper limit of 10 joules so you may need to upgrade to a more powerful machine if you decide to start welding bigger chains. 

By comparison, the Orion MPulse, which is the state of the art Sunstone permanent jewelery welder and is around $1000 more expensive than the Zapp Plus 2, also goes up to 30 joules. So the Zapp Plus 2 has so much power that you are literally futureproofing yourself. 

So how much is this bit of sexy kit that is beautiful, powerful and has all the features a permanent jewelry machine needs? Actually it’s only coming in slightly higher than the original Zapp plus cementing its place as the middle man exactly inbetween the budget Zapp and the flagship Orion MPulse. But it is so much closer to the MPulse with the exact same stylus and the same power that it makes such a good choice. 

And this might make some of you FURIOUS who already bought the original Zapp plus and love its functionality, but who now want to take advantage of the style and new features of the Zapp plus 2 but don’t want to have to shell out for a new machine.
